Training & Professional Development Workshops for Nonprofits

Practical, Skill-Based Training for Nonprofit Staff, Leaders, and Boards

Carpenter Nonprofit Consulting offers expert-led nonprofit training and workshops designed for real-world conditions. Sessions focus on grant strategy, governance, program design, storytelling, and organizational decision-making — with an emphasis on clarity, alignment, and tools participants can actually use after the session ends.

Training Highlights

  • Grant Writing 101 is designed to provide nonprofit organizations with the knowledge and skills needed to successfully apply for grant funding. This training is ideal for nonprofit professionals who are new to grant writing or those who want to refresh their skills and learn best practices to increase their chances of securing grant funding.

In this session, you’ll learn about the various types of grants available to nonprofits, how to identify potential grant opportunities, and how to research and develop strong proposals that effectively communicate your organization's mission and highlight the impact of your programs and services. You’ll leave with a greater understanding of the grant writing process and the confidence to pursue grant opportunities that align with your nonprofit’s grant funding goals.

  • In this training, participants will learn to thoroughly and strategically read grant Requests for Proposals (RFPs) to determine whether there is a good fit between the grant opportunity and your organization or program. We’ll cover how to analyze the key sections of an RFP, including the funder's priorities and interests, award information, eligibility criteria, application requirements, and evaluation criteria. Participants will learn how to extract crucial details, understand how to interpret application questions by reading “between the lines,” and create a proposal strategy that sets your application up for success.

  • Have you been stuck in a cycle of applying for grants and receiving declination letters – without an explanation? Are you curious about pursuing grant funding for your nonprofit, but aren’t sure where to start?

Navigating the world of grant funding can feel like walking around with a blindfold, but the secrets to success are simple (even if they aren’t always easy). In this session, you’ll learn about the key elements required to build a foundation for grant-seeking success – and how implementing these principles can amplify the impact of your programs and make your work easier and more fulfilling.

  • Step into the fascinating arena of prospect research, where you’ll learn to blend creativity with critical analysis to unearth potential funding opportunities and position your organization for grant success.

    In this session, participants will:

    • Explore a variety of sources for finding information about potential grant funding opportunities.

    • Understand how to assess and prioritize the various elements of an RFP or funder profile to evaluate your organization’s or program’s fit.

    • Discover ways to “read between the lines” and understand subtle cues that can help you predict your chances of success.

Equip yourself with tools and insights to elevate your grant writing game. Discover the art of connecting the dots and the science of informed decision-making when it comes to developing your grant funding strategy.

  • Why are we, as humans, so captivated by stories? The answer lies in the heart of our shared experiences and emotions. This workshop is designed to bridge this understanding with the concrete skill of penning compelling tales. By familiarizing participants with the bedrock of storytelling, this interactive training ventures further to demonstrate its pivotal role in grant writing. Harness the art of narrative, and watch your grant proposals come alive, resonating profoundly with funders.
